West Ham condemns anti-Palestine chant, urges supporters to represent the club appropriately

West Ham United has condemned an anti-Palestine chant heard during their opening Championship fixture against Burnley, urging supporters to “represent the club in the right way,” reports BritPanorama.

During the match at Turf Moor, some fans were reported to have sung a chant referencing summer signing Manor Solomon, which included an anti-Palestine message. This prompted the club’s intervention ahead of their first home game against Charlton, set for Saturday.

The statement from West Ham described the chant as “offensive and divisive,” emphasising that it does not reflect the club’s values. The club reiterated a commitment to ensuring an inclusive environment for all fans, regardless of their background.

“West Ham United would like to remind supporters of the responsibility we all hold to represent the club in the right way,” they stated. “Every supporter within our diverse fanbase should also be free to enjoy watching their team play football without fear, discrimination or abuse.”

While acknowledging that songs and chants are integral to football culture, West Ham made clear such support should not come at the expense of alienating other fans. The club underlined that its identity is built around “togetherness, respect and a sense of community.”

The intervention comes ahead of what is expected to be a packed London Stadium for West Ham’s return to Championship action. Charlton’s visit has already sold out, and the club aims to keep focus on the match rather than the controversy over past chants.

As supporters gather, the call for pride and unity on the pitch is underscored. In a sport where passion often spills over, it serves as a poignant reminder that the celebrations of football should bridge divides rather than create them.
