Max Verstappen extends contract with Red Bull until 2030
Max Verstappen has ended speculation surrounding his Formula One future by committing to Red Bull until 2030 in a major boost for the struggling team, reports BritPanorama.
The four-time world champion has decided to extend his stay with the constructor where he has enjoyed virtually all of his remarkable F1 success. Previously contracted to Red Bull until the end of 2028, Verstappen’s future had been uncertain amid interest from other teams on the grid.
Mercedes had been linked with a sensational move for the Dutchman, while Verstappen also held talks with McLaren chief executive Zak Brown earlier this year. However, the 28-year-old has now committed his long-term future to Red Bull, with this agreement potentially representing the final contract of his Formula One career.
The deal follows a period of negotiations which reportedly became difficult at times. Verstappen’s representatives were believed to have pushed for an increase on his existing salary, reported to be around £60 million per year. Although Red Bull executives were initially reluctant to improve those terms, a compromise has been reached to ensure their star driver remains with the team.
The announcement comes ahead of Verstappen’s home Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort this weekend. “I am really pleased with the contract extension,” Verstappen said. “We have the best people and I’m excited to keep working together with everyone to get back to the top again.”
Verstappen joined the Red Bull senior team during the 2016 season and famously won on his debut at the Spanish Grand Prix. He has since developed into the dominant driver of his generation, winning four consecutive world championships between 2021 and 2024. Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies hailed the agreement as a significant moment for the constructor.
“Having Max continue with us and retaining the best driver on the grid is fantastic news for everyone at Red Bull, Oracle Red Bull Racing, as well as F1 and motorsport as a whole,” he said. The new agreement provides Red Bull with crucial long-term stability following a difficult start to the 2026 campaign.
Despite opportunities to pursue a blockbuster move elsewhere, Verstappen has chosen to remain loyal to Red Bull as they attempt to return to the summit of Formula One. As the season unfolds, the dynamics of loyalty and ambition continue to resonate deeply within the sport, showcasing how even the strongest partnerships can lead to pivotal moments on a global stage.
