Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White injury update following victory over Chelsea

Nottingham Forest manager Vitor Pereira provided an update on Morgan Gibbs-White after the midfielder was forced out of their 3-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday, reports BritPanorama.

Forest secured the victory with a brace from Taiwo Awoniyi and a penalty scored by Igor Jesus. However, the match saw concerning incidents involving players that raised alarms about their welfare.

In the first half, Zach Abbott collided with Jesse Derry, leading to both players being substituted after a lengthy stoppage. The situation later turned dire for Gibbs-White, who in the second half clashed with Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. While he managed to stand, he was subsequently substituted and exited the pitch hastily.

Post-match, Pereira confirmed that Gibbs-White had sustained a ‘deep cut’, although he refrained from disclosing whether the player would be fit for Thursday’s crucial Europa League semi-final second leg against Aston Villa.

“I am waiting. I am not a doctor. Gibbs-White has a deep cut. We will see. He is a fighter and he has a strong mentality,” Pereira stated in his post-match comments. He expressed hope that the club’s medical staff could work wonders to prepare his star player for the upcoming fixture. “I said to him, ‘You don’t need to head the ball just to play’. We will see,” he added, highlighting the player’s robust character.

Pereira also expressed immense pride in his Forest players, complimenting them as one of the best groups he has coached in his career. He stated, “The only thing I’m sad about is the injury of [Morgan] Gibbs-White,” emphasising the impact of his absence.

Moreover, he elaborated on the team’s performance, assuring that their quality and speed would remain unaffected by personnel changes. “We are a team that want to keep our future in our hands, and to do that we need to win games and not be worried about the results of other teams,” he noted.

The victory at Stamford Bridge not only bolstered Forest’s Premier League aspirations but also illustrated their unity and resilience, even amid injury challenges. As the players now look ahead to a defining Europa League clash, the spirit in their ranks remains notably high, albeit tinged with concern for Gibbs-White’s fitness.

In the world of football, injuries can alter the course of the season, but for Nottingham Forest, navigating these challenges while maintaining performance levels will be pivotal in their pursuit of success.
