Ronnie O’Sullivan recognized with five Guinness World Records at Crucible Theatre
Ronnie O’Sullivan received a special honour at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre, where Guinness World Records presented the snooker legend with five official certificates, reports BritPanorama.
The ceremony occurred backstage following O’Sullivan’s appearance at the World Seniors Snooker Championship, marking a significant moment in a career that now boasts an awe-inspiring total of 19 world records.
This recognition celebrated several landmark achievements in professional snooker, notably O’Sullivan’s record for the highest break ever made in the sport. On 20 March this year, he recorded a remarkable 153 break during the World Open in Yushan, Jiangxi, China, surpassing a maximum break record that had stood since 1976.
O’Sullivan’s impressive performance earned him the Guinness World Records title for the highest break in snooker, elevating his standing even further as one of the sport’s most celebrated figures.
In addition to the 153 break, O’Sullivan was acknowledged for the fastest 147 break in snooker history, achieved in just 5 minutes and 8 seconds back in April 1997. He also holds the record for the most competitive maximum breaks, having achieved 17 perfect 147s between 1997 and August 2025.
His career is underscored by an impressive tally of 41 ranking titles won between 1993 and January 2024. Furthermore, O’Sullivan became the first player to reach 1,000 competitive centuries, a milestone he reached in March 2019.
Rebecca Ward, a Guinness World Records adjudicator, spoke about the significance of the occasion, stating, “Ronnie O’Sullivan has produced some of the most iconic moments in sporting history, so it’s a real privilege for Guinness World Records to recognise these achievements at the Crucible, a venue so closely tied to his career and legacy.”
Ward emphasised that O’Sullivan’s journey exemplifies what talent and dedication can achieve, expressing hope that his accomplishments inspire others to push their own boundaries.
These achievements not only cement O’Sullivan’s legacy but also remind fans and aspiring players alike of the enduring impact one individual can have on a sport — a legacy finely crafted over decades of thrilling competition and innovation.
