Prankster jailed for pitch invasion at Twickenham

A notorious prankster, known for disrupting various sporting events, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison following his pitch invasion at Twickenham during the England versus Ireland Six Nations match in November 2022, reports BritPanorama.

Daniel Jarvis, widely recognized as “Jarvo69” on social media, received his sentence at Kingston Crown Court on April 27. He was convicted of breaching Section Two of the Fraud Act 2006 after using fake identification to gain access to the prestigious rugby venue.

During the Twickenham incident, Jarvis entered the pitch wearing full England rugby kit and positioned himself among the players as the national anthems were sung. His moment of notoriety ended when he was swiftly removed by security personnel.

The Crown Prosecution Service stated that Jarvis’s case will return to court on May 10, where judges will evaluate a potential Criminal Behaviour Order related to fraudulent activities. His history of disruptions includes a previous incident on BBC’s Match of the Day, where he concealed a mobile device that transmitted explicit audio during the live broadcast.

His antics extend beyond rugby; in 2021, Jarvis was given a suspended eight-week prison term for a similar pitch invasion during an England cricket match against India, after which he was issued a two-year ban from all sporting events. Jarvis claimed his videos were intended to entertain, saying, “I get loads of people saying they have got mental health [problems] and my videos make them happy.”

Just a week before his sentencing, Jarvis was at South Sefton Magistrates’ Court, where he was handed a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order for invading the pitch before a rugby league match. This brought additional scrutiny to his actions and the consequences that have followed.

Jarvis’s persistent antics raise questions about the limits of entertainment within sports and the ongoing balance between freedom of expression and the respect for event integrity.
