Grass fires spread to homes in Stourbridge
A huge grass fire has spread to houses in Stourbridge as blazes rage out of control across parts of the UK, reports BritPanorama.
Fires have engulfed homes, cars, and gardens, prompting several major incidents to be declared. The M6 motorway has been partially closed due to thick smoke blowing across the carriageway. Witnesses describe the scene as “like something from a horror movie.”
Numerous fires are currently active in the West Midlands, including Stourbridge, Sandyford, Stoke-on-Trent, and Stratford-upon-Avon. Firefighters are battling multiple blazes, with over 60 personnel deployed in Stourbridge alone to tackle the wildfire.
Local residents are advised to stay indoors as smoke fills the skies, further complicating the response to these blazes. In Castle Vale, Birmingham, a woman has been seriously injured due to a fire affecting several homes.
A major incident has also been declared in the Warwickshire area, near Stratford-upon-Avon, and in Mousehold Heath, Norwich, where flames are threatening nearby properties. Additionally, seven separate fires have been reported in South Wales.
In Tamworth, Staffordshire, a 50-foot blaze ripped through at least six gardens, resulting in one hospitalization. The incident coincides with a heatwave, as temperatures soared to 36 degrees Celsius in what is becoming one of the hottest days on record.
