Harry Redknapp endorses Frank Lampard for England manager role
Harry Redknapp believes his nephew Frank Lampard would be a “fantastic” choice to lead England in the future, reports BritPanorama.
The former Tottenham boss is backing the 48-year-old to take charge of the Three Lions, suggesting it could become reality sooner rather than later. “Of course. Absolutely, yeah, he would be fantastic. I can see that happening in a couple of years,” Redknapp stated.
With Thomas Tuchel currently managing the England team as only the third foreign permanent manager after Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello, many supporters would love to see an Englishman back in the dugout. Redknapp clearly thinks Lampard fits the bill perfectly for that role.
Lampard’s credentials for the job are certainly impressive. The former Chelsea and England midfielder earned 106 caps for his country, finding the net 29 times along the way, and featured at four major international tournaments during his playing days, giving him invaluable experience of the pressures that come with representing England on the biggest stages.
Lampard has already had spells in charge at Chelsea and Everton, and last season he guided Coventry City into the Premier League. He’s reportedly close to signing a fresh deal with the Midlands club, but Redknapp sees bigger things ahead for his nephew.
However, Lampard may need to be patient, as Tuchel penned a new contract back in February that keeps him in charge through to the 2028 Euros. Redknapp admitted he was taken aback by the FA’s decision to extend the German’s deal before the World Cup had even kicked off. “It was a surprise because if he has a shocking tournament, then what are they going to do?” he said. “But if he has a shocker, they are going to look stupid, aren’t they? They have taken a chance. Hopefully it pays off for everybody.”
Despite his reservations about the timing, Redknapp’s priorities are clear. “I just want to see us win. I’m English and proud to be English. I want to see us win the World Cup,” he added.
As debates unfold over the future of the England national team, the spotlight remains on Lampard, whose journey continues to draw attention from the footballing community. How the FA navigates its managerial decisions could shape not only the team’s fortunes but the career trajectory of one of England’s cherished footballing figures.
