Jim Furyk seeks Tiger Woods’ involvement in 2027 Ryder Cup
United States Captain Jim Furyk has expressed his desire for Tiger Woods to play a role in the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor. Furyk, who will lead the team for a second time after their loss at Le Golf National in Paris in 2018, made the statement amid Woods’ ongoing recovery from personal challenges, reports BritPanorama.
Furyk noted that he has served as a vice-captain alongside Woods at previous Ryder Cups. He emphasized his wish to involve Woods, who is currently receiving treatment in Switzerland following a DUI incident related to a car crash near his home in Florida in March.
During his arrest, police discovered two prescription hydrocodone pills in Woods’ possession, used to manage pain from multiple surgeries. However, Furyk has refrained from contacting Woods out of respect for his recovery process, stating, “We haven’t spoken yet. I think, out of kind of courtesy for him and his family, and I know maybe a road to health, I haven’t reached out, but I will.”
Furyk indicated that Woods may occupy a role akin to an advisor, similar to how he had previously assisted players like Keegan Bradley. “I enjoyed serving – I use that word serving – as a vice-captain with him a number of times,” said Furyk, highlighting Woods’ extensive knowledge and experience in the team environment.
Reports reveal that insiders believe Woods is eager to return to competitive golf once his treatment concludes. A source mentioned, “He knows he needs to beat his issues and also deal with the pain from not only playing golf but also from his regular fitness schedule.” Woods is said to be responding positively to a 90-day rehab programme focused on pain management.
Throughout this challenging period, Woods’ girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, has remained a steadfast supporter. Close to a year into their relationship, sources indicate they share a strong bond, with Trump actively endorsing Woods’ decision to undergo intensive therapy. “She loves him and knows that private treatment was necessary,” a source revealed.
As the golf community awaits further developments, the 2027 Ryder Cup could see a pivotal moment in Woods’ career, showcasing his resilience amid personal trials, a narrative that resonates within both sports and human endurance.
