Iran’s security chief Mohsen Rezaei has issued a stark warning of “earthquake-like” retaliation should US President Donald Trump undertake further actions, reports BritPanorama.
In light of Trump’s intentions to ramp up economic sanctions—termed “economic D-Day”—Tehran has cautioned its Gulf neighbours against siding with the US in these actions targeting Iran’s financial interests.
“Should Trump take action, our confrontation will be like an earthquake,” Rezaei stated. He elaborated that if neighbouring countries collaborate with the US in this economic aggression, “not a drop of oil will leave the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, and we will also target other oil export routes from the Persian Gulf.”
Trump has declared plans for “Economic Warfare and Isolation on an unprecedented scale” against Iran, which he describes as the “toughest sanctions in history.” In counteraction, Tehran accuses Trump of perpetrating “economic terrorism.”
Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei condemned the forthcoming US sanctions as an “assertion of extraterritorial sovereignty over every independent member state of the United Nations.”
This escalating rhetoric highlights the ongoing tensions in the region, particularly surrounding vital shipping routes like the Strait of Hormuz. As diplomatic dialogues appear stalled, the situation remains precarious, underscoring the fragility of geopolitical relations in this critical area.
