Tiger Woods congratulates Tom Kim after Scottish Open victory
Tiger Woods texted Scottish Open winner Tom Kim moments after he won the title, congratulating the golfing star on his success. The South Korean shed tears of joy after completing a bogey-free final round to win the tournament and claim his first title in three years, reports BritPanorama.
The 24-year-old shared that Woods was among the first to congratulate him on this long-awaited victory. “I can’t really wrap my mind over it. It’s really special and I’m just at a loss for words,” Kim expressed.
Reflecting on recent challenges, he added, “I’ve had a tough couple of years… I got to really learn about myself, and I’m still trying to grow, still trying to learn.” Kim noted that he appreciated this win more than previous ones, partly because it brought back memories of family and friends who had supported him through difficult times.
In a show of sportsmanship, Kim mentioned that Woods has been very helpful throughout his journey. “This was my first win in three years, and the first person that texted me was Tiger Woods. Shows you the person he is and how much he cares,” he said. For his triumph, Kim scooped £1.2 million and secured a place in next year’s Masters.
The turning point in his round came on the 16th hole, where he launched an impressive approach shot from over 200 yards, landing the ball just six feet from the hole. After which, he sank a birdie putt while sharing a laugh with his caddie about the remarkable strike. “Second on 16 might be one of the best shots I’ve hit in my career so far. It’s definitely up there,” he remarked.
Local hero Robert MacIntyre began his round with a birdie, but his momentum faltered as he recorded four bogeys over the next nine holes, ultimately ending his hopes for victory. He described his performance as “brutal,” admitting to numerous mistakes despite a strong start.
As players turn their focus to The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale in Southport, which starts on Thursday, Kim’s triumph at the Scottish Open serves as a significant reminder of resilience and the unpredictable nature of sport, showcasing how swiftly fortunes can change on the greens.
