Rory McIlroy attends Wimbledon with family and Ryder Cup teammates
Rory McIlroy was seen at Wimbledon enjoying the tennis alongside his wife, Erica Stoll, and several members of the European Ryder Cup team, reports BritPanorama.
The Northern Irish golfer sported his Masters Green Jacket as he watched Jannik Sinner compete against Nuno Borges on Centre Court. Fans greeted McIlroy with a standing ovation as he arrived at his seat.
McIlroy posed for photos with his wife and Ryder Cup teammates including Luke Donald, Tommy Fleetwood, and Justin Rose during the match.
In the lead-up to The Open Championship, McIlroy has been preparing at Royal Birkdale. At a recent visit to the club in Southport, he expressed his excitement to participate in the tournament where he aims to secure his second major title of the year.
Speaking to Sir Nick Faldo, McIlroy mentioned the changes made to the course since the last Open in 2017. “I’ve always thought Birkdale is one of the best on the Open rota,” he stated, highlighting the new green complexes and hole alterations he has observed.
Looking ahead, McIlroy plans to compete in the Genesis Scottish Open, a tournament he won in 2023 and ranked runner-up the previous year. “It’ll be nice to get a few reps in, get a card in my hand, do all that,” he remarked following his training at Royal Birkdale.
This season has been notably successful for McIlroy, marked by his triumph at Augusta, where he clinched his second Masters title, finishing at 12-under par and narrowly defeating world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.
With six major championships to his name, McIlroy’s victories solidify his status among golf’s elite. He is now tied with Sir Nick Faldo for the highest number of majors won by a European and is on the brink of joining the exclusive group of golfers with the most major wins in history.
The impressions left by McIlroy’s remarkable season echo through the world of golf; as he seeks further glory, there is both anticipation and speculation about what he might achieve next. After all, in sport as in life, the narrative often unfolds in unexpected ways.
