Rory McIlroy shines in BMW Championship opening round

Describing the course conditions, he stated, “This golf course sets up a lot better for me than Memphis did last week,” emphasizing the wider playing corridors that suited his style. “You can miss it a little bit off the tee, and I definitely feel a little bit more comfortable on this golf course than I did last week.”
Looking ahead to the next round, McIlroy remained cautious, acknowledging that while his first round was encouraging, there is still much work to be done. He is set to face Xander Schauffele in the upcoming round and recognizes the challenges that lie ahead.
Meanwhile, world number one Scottie Scheffler struggled throughout his opening round, finishing with a two-over-par 72, ending up joint 44th. This performance is notable given his recent victory at the St Jude Championship and marks a stark contrast to McIlroy’s ascent.
Scheffler’s difficulties were attributed to his approach play and putting, as he faced a rare round above par. The American will tee off later against England’s Matt Fitzpatrick, who recorded a solid five-under-par performance to stay within striking distance of the leaders.
