Luke Littler considers future as darts commentator
Luke Littler, the 19-year-old darts phenomenon, has suggested he may transition to a commentator role after retiring from competitive play, reports BritPanorama.
During an appearance on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast with former Manchester United player Paul Scholes, Littler was asked about his potential career at the age of 51. He stated, “Surely retired at 51. Family. Maybe even doing darts commentary or something like that.”
When Scholes inquired if he would enjoy the job, Littler responded affirmatively, indicating that he’d consider commentary, “Yeah, maybe when I’ve retired.” He named Wayne Mardle and Stuart Pyke as his preferred voices in the darts commentary sphere.
A possible future in broadcasting could establish Littler as a popular voice among darting fans, although he emphasized that any such career shift is a distant prospect. Currently, he remains focused on expanding his collection of major titles.
While the opportunity to secure victories across all major competitions this year has passed, Littler aims to reclaim the World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace this Christmas, with the £1 million first prize firmly in his sights. His achievements thus far have been impressive; Littler became a two-time world champion before the age of 20.
In his debut sixth-month period, he reached the world championship final, capturing significant attention despite losing to Luke Humphries. He returned to Ally Pally in subsequent championships, winning both and asserting his dominance in the sport.
The attention surrounding Littler has led to comparisons with Phil Taylor, who holds the record with 16 world titles. Littler expressed confidence in his ability to potentially match this achievement, stating, “I think I could. Definitely could. I’ve got, probably say, 30, 40 years to do it.”
As he emphasized the unpredictability of a sporting career, Littler acknowledged, “If I really want it, then I’m sure I’ll go and get it, but I don’t know what’s around the corner.” The young champion’s future, while still uncertain, hints at significant potential both on and off the oche.
The remarkable trajectory of Luke Littler serves as an example of how swiftly talent can emerge and reshape the landscape of a sport. In a world where anticipating the future is part of the game, even a young star knows that the road ahead remains unpredictable.
