Tottenham evaluates Thomas Frank's future after defeat to West Ham amid growing unrest

Pressure mounts on Thomas Frank at Tottenham

Thomas Frank’s tenure at Tottenham is engulfed in uncertainty following Saturday’s defeat to West Ham, with the north London club now actively evaluating a potential managerial change, reports BritPanorama.

Despite the escalating pressure on Frank, there are currently no plans for an immediate announcement regarding his position. He is set to remain in charge for Tuesday’s upcoming Champions League fixture against Borussia Dortmund, though doubts linger over his future beyond that match.

The atmosphere at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium turned toxic during the 2-1 loss, with home supporters chanting, “You’re getting sacked in the morning,” following Callum Wilson’s dramatic last-minute winner for West Ham. This hostile reaction from the fans has prompted the club’s leadership to reassess their options regarding Frank’s future.

Notably, prior to the West Ham clash, the club hierarchy had publicly expressed support for Frank, indicating a lack of desire for change. However, the recent performance has shifted the narrative significantly. Tottenham currently sits in 14th place in the Premier League, having secured just one victory in their last eight matches in all competitions, intensifying the scrutiny on Frank.

The late defeat against their London rivals was compounded by the difficult circumstances surrounding the match, leading to a reassessment at the boardroom level about Frank’s position. Furthermore, the appointment of John Heitinga as Frank’s assistant just last week now seems critical, with his presence providing a ready-made temporary solution should Tottenham decide to part ways with the Danish manager.

Speaking after the match, Frank acknowledged the challenges he faces, stating, “I’ve probably had better times, it’s probably not the best time of course. But I understand, I’m the man in charge. So the blame will go to me. That’s fair, no problem in that sense.”

Amid speculation regarding potential successors, former manager Mauricio Pochettino could emerge as a target should Frank be dismissed. Also in consideration might be Oliver Glasner, particularly as the season progresses.

For now, the focus remains on the Champions League, where Frank will be tasked with steering Tottenham through turbulent waters—set against the backdrop of a club striving to regain its competitive edge.
