The Manchester United Supporters Trust and Manchester United Fans’ Forum released a joint statement condemning the venue choice. They described it as a “disgrace,” recalling examples of previous finals that attracted crowds far exceeding the current allocation.
The supporters’ statement emphasized the significance of the event, stating: “Last time United were in the final, we had 67,000 fans in Old Trafford.” The groups have called on the FA to ensure that the final is played at either Old Trafford or the Etihad Stadium, advocating for a larger audience to witness these young talents.
In defense, Manchester City has asserted its right to host the match at Joie Stadium, having been designated as the home team for the fixture. The club claims scheduling conflicts with its senior team’s remaining Premier League matches prevent the use of the Etihad Stadium. City officials point to ongoing construction work on the North Stand as a factor in their decision, maintaining they are not in violation of any regulations.
