Marcus Rashford returns for Manchester United in pre-season clash against AC Milan

Marcus Rashford marked his return to the pitch for Manchester United in their pre-season match against AC Milan, playing for the first time since December 2024. The Red Devils fell to a 4-2 defeat in a disappointing display, reports BritPanorama.

United’s forward performance is under scrutiny, particularly as he is expected to remain at Old Trafford. Manager Michael Carrick has suggested that Rashford is an integral part of his plans moving forward. Defender Harry Maguire expressed optimism about Rashford’s contributions, describing him as a “big asset” for the team.

Maguire stated, “Obviously the transfer window is still open. As players, we hope he stays because if he does, he is a big asset to have. He can improve us for sure.” He also praised Rashford’s impact when he came on, noting his ability to threaten AC Milan’s defense.

In the match, United took an early lead through Maguire, who scored from a Bruno Fernandes corner within two minutes. Despite this bright start, the team struggled to maintain their momentum, a lapse in concentration allowing Milan’s Goncalo Ramos to assist Samuel Chukwueze for the equaliser.

During the match, Fernandes missed another penalty attempt, being denied by Milan’s goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani after Chukwueze earned a spot-kick. Ultimately, it was a day of misplaced chances for United, as they conceded additional goals to Chukwueze and Alphadjo Cisse, despite briefly regaining the lead.

Chukwueze’s performance stood out, significantly contributing to Milan’s success, with a direct role in three of their four goals. This win was particularly poignant for Milan’s manager Ruben Amorim, as he had previously been dismissed from Manchester United earlier in 2025.

As Manchester United prepares for their next fixture against Hull City, the pressure mounts on the players to rectify their form and deliver a more cohesive performance.

In football, the dynamics of promise and performance often collide spectacularly, leaving fans both hopeful and anxious about their team’s trajectory. How United harnesses the talents of players like Rashford amid swirling uncertainties may define their season ahead.
