Gary Neville critiques Benjamin Sesko after Manchester United’s draw
Gary Neville has sharply criticized Manchester United forward Benjamin Sesko, expressing disappointment in the striker’s performance during the club’s 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday, reports BritPanorama.
The Red Devils entered the match aiming to extend their winning streak, having recently secured victories over Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton. However, despite goals from Casemiro and Amad Diallo, United could only manage a draw, a result that hampers their pursuit of Arsenal in the Premier League title race.
Sesko, who joined from RB Leipzig this summer, was underwhelming, prompting Neville to comment on NBC Sports that the “jury is still out” on the 22-year-old’s potential. He described Sesko as “miles off it” in comparison to new teammates Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. “I’m no further forward with him,” Neville added, indicating concerns about Sesko’s adjustment to the Premier League.
Despite having scored twice since his arrival—against Brentford and Sunderland—Sesko has not found the net in the last three league games. His lack of form has led to unfavorable comparisons with Rasmus Hojlund, another forward who struggled before being loaned to Napoli after underwhelming performances.
United manager Ruben Amorim remains optimistic about Sesko’s future and the team’s overall direction. Following the match against Forest, he stated, “We lost control for five minutes but in the past we’d have collapsed,” acknowledging areas for improvement while praising his side for their overall play. Amorim highlighted Amad’s late equalizer as indicative of the squad’s potential, calling him “a huge talent” who is maturing rapidly.
Looking ahead, Manchester United will face Tottenham next, a crucial match that precedes the international break and prior to their encounters with other teams including Everton and Crystal Palace.
As the season unfolds, the scrutiny on Sesko will likely intensify, reminding fans that in football, expectations and realities often collide in unpredictable ways.
