Andrey Santos has completed his £50 million transfer to Manchester United from Chelsea, marking a significant move as he becomes Michael Carrick’s first signing as head coach, reports BritPanorama.

The 22-year-old midfielder has signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford, which includes an option for an additional year. United’s deal entails an initial fee of £48 million, with a potential £2 million in performance-related add-ons.

Santos has expressed enthusiasm about joining what he considers one of the world’s foremost football clubs. “Everything about Manchester United is special; it is an incredible feeling to join a club that some of my biggest idols have represented,” he stated.

Prior to this transfer, Santos acknowledged his eagerness to work under Carrick, viewing him as the ideal mentor to elevate his performance. “He is the perfect coach to help me take the next step in my career and push to achieve my dreams,” he added.

His arrival comes as United looks to strengthen its midfield following the departure of Casemiro and the injury to Manuel Ugarte during international duty. Santos had previously made 43 appearances for Chelsea last season, scoring three goals and providing four assists. His performance has led United’s management to regard him as a critical addition moving forward.

United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, hailed Santos as an “outstanding midfielder” with a capacity to influence matches at both ends of the pitch. Reflecting on the club’s ambitions, Wilcox remarked that Santos’s experience and potential could make him a key player in the forthcoming seasons.

As the transfer window remains open, United is reportedly pursuing further additions, with Aston Villa’s Youri Tielemans identified as a potential target. This pursuit indicates Carrick’s proactive approach in preparing the squad for the new Premier League season.

While Santos’s journey at Manchester United is just beginning, it serves as a poignant reminder of the unique blend of youthful talent and experienced leadership that defines the club’s ambitions this season.
