Adams represented Bafana Bafana prominently in the tournament, starting in the opening matches against Mexico and Czechia. His contribution was seen as key, even as South Africa’s World Cup journey was cut short.

Reports indicate that Adams was found deceased at a hotel in Cape Town, although the circumstances surrounding his death remain unconfirmed. The sudden nature of his passing has left many in the football fraternity mourning.

Just a day before the announcement of his death, Adams shared a personal moment on Instagram, posting a photograph with his girlfriend, Aqueelah Adendorf. The South African Football Players Union expressed its devastation, stating, “The SAFPU is devastated by the untimely passing of Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder, Jayden Adams.”

In their tribute, the SAFPU acknowledged Adams’ contributions to the national team, recognising him as a player who carried the hopes of South Africa with “pride, courage, and distinction.” They added, “His passing is an immeasurable loss to his family, teammates, clubs, the football fraternity and country at large.”

Beginning his senior career with Stellenbosch FC, Adams’ talents quickly saw him move to Mamelodi Sundowns in January 2025, where he emerged as an integral player. Described as energetic and composed, he had rapidly established himself as a key figure in the national side, anticipated to play a significant role in its future.

In the recent World Cup, Adams starting in the 2-0 loss to Mexico and played in the 1-1 draw with Czechia, showcasing his skills on one of the sport’s biggest stages. He had earned admiration not just for his footballing abilities but also for his dedication and hard work.

In a heartfelt message shared prior to his World Cup debut, Adendorf reflected on her pride for Adams’s achievements. “Watching you achieve something this big has filled my heart with so much pride,” she wrote. The acknowledgment of his hard work and resilience is a testament to Adams’ character.
