Former Chelsea youth player lamisha musonda reveals terminal illness

Lamisha Musonda, the former Chelsea youth player, has disclosed in a heartbreaking social media post that he believes he has merely days remaining to live, reports BritPanorama.

The 33-year-old Belgian midfielder, who arrived at Stamford Bridge from Anderlecht in 2012 alongside his siblings Tika and Charly, shared the devastating news without specifying the nature of his illness. Musonda acknowledged that his health has reached a critical state following what he described as two particularly challenging years.

Having retired from professional football in 2020, Musonda confirmed he is now battling for survival as his condition continues to deteriorate. He reflected on the support he has received from family and friends throughout his life.

In his poignant message, written in both English and French, Musonda expressed profound sadness at potentially being unable to thank the many people who have meant so much to him. “As I realise I only have a few days left, I also realise I had a lot of people by my side and I’ll always cherish the memories,” he wrote. “Life is hard, but the view is great.”

Musonda’s family boasts a rich footballing heritage spanning generations. He began his professional journey when he departed Anderlecht for Chelsea’s academy, joining his brothers in the move to west London. Following his development in the Blues’ youth setup, Musonda spent two seasons at Chelsea before moving to Belgian club Mechelen.

His career took him across Europe, with spells at Spanish lower-tier clubs Llagostera and Palamos, providing him with diverse experience. Musonda also played in Africa, representing Congolese powerhouse Mazembe before concluding his playing days. His recent absence from social media was explained as directly connected to his deteriorating health.

As Musonda draws attention to his struggles, it serves as a somber reminder of the often-overlooked lives of those who have graced the football field. Amid the cheers and adulation associated with the sport, individual struggles frequently remain hidden from view, highlighting the need for greater awareness and support for athletes facing health crises.
