Casemiro to leave Manchester United at season end, confirms Carrick
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has reiterated that Casemiro will not be extending his stay at Old Trafford, despite the midfielder’s impressive performance against Brentford, reports BritPanorama.
The Brazilian international opened the scoring on Monday night, with Benjamin Sesko netting the winner for Brentford following a late consolation goal from Mathias Jensen.
Casemiro has already confirmed his decision to leave United at the end of the season after four years in the Premier League. His outstanding form has led many supporters to desire an extension of his contract, especially given the current shortage of experienced players in United’s midfield.
In his post-match comments, Carrick ruled out any possibility of the veteran extending his contract. “It’s pretty clear – from both sides it’s pretty clear the decision,” he said. “It’s pretty clear, too, how much it means to him [playing for United] and probably the situation and the clarity of the decision has helped everything to be understandable for the supporters as well.”
Carrick expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress, highlighting that securing back-to-back victories over Chelsea and Brentford brings them closer to Champions League qualification. “This week’s been very effective in terms of the league,” he noted. “Champions League is one thing, but it’s not something we should be celebrating either.”
The manager also stressed their need to finish higher up in the league and accumulate more points as the season progresses. “It’s one thing certainly we need to try and achieve and we’ve put ourselves in a good position at this moment, but there’s still more work to be done,” he added.
Despite the victory, United’s defense was tested frequently, particularly during a tactical switch to a three-at-the-back formation at halftime. Carrick stated, “We tweaked things second half and, for the most part, had decent control. I thought the spirit and effort was fantastic. We could’ve scored more but, at this time of year, it’s a results business.”
As the season approaches its climax, the situation surrounding Casemiro serves as a reminder of the complex interplay between player circumstances and team strategy. His impending departure could mark the end of an era, shaping the future of Manchester United as they look to build on recent success.
