Bryson DeChambeau debuts new putter at PGA Championship

Bryson DeChambeau has tried out a new putter as the LIV Golf star teed off at the PGA Championship, reports BritPanorama.

The American is aiming for his first victory at Aronimink, having previously won two majors — the US Open in 2020 and 2024. He enters this tournament with optimism, having finished in the top ranks during his last two attempts.

Before starting his opening round, DeChambeau engaged his audience on his YouTube channel, attempting to break the course record at a public golf course.

As he approached the second green, the golfer revealed, “Got a new putter in the bag right now. New shaft. Trying just shafts in there. So hopefully it stabilises it more.” He went on to express his confidence in the new equipment, noting the importance of the transition from feel to performance.

DeChambeau’s competition at Aronimink includes fellow players Ludvig Aberg and Rickie Fowler. He also addressed concerns regarding LIV Golf’s future, particularly in light of Saudi Arabia’s recent withdrawal of financial support at the end of the year. “I think, from my perspective, I’d love to grow my YouTube channel three times, maybe even more,” he stated during an interview.

The 32-year-old’s YouTube platform currently boasts 2.7 million subscribers. He has been in discussions with the PGA Tour regarding a potential return, yet anticipates facing difficult repercussions. DeChambeau, who joined LIV Golf in June 2022, participated in legal action against the PGA Tour, alleging unfair treatment towards players who defected but withdrew from the lawsuit in May 2023.

Reflecting on the evolving landscape of golf, he expressed surprise at the sudden changes in funding. “Quite unfortunate in my opinion, considering what I could do for them,” he noted, commenting on potential consequences to his career. As he navigates this pivotal moment, his LIV contract is set to expire at the end of this season, with earlier reports suggesting he sought a renewal worth $500 million prior to the funding announcement.

In the world of golf, as alliances shift and new narratives emerge, DeChambeau’s journey highlights how quickly fortunes can change, offering a parallel to the competitive spirit of the sport itself.
