Bruno Fernandes named Premier League Player of the Season

Bruno Fernandes has been named Premier League Player of the Season after a fantastic campaign with Manchester United, reports BritPanorama.

The Portuguese midfielder equalled the record for the most assists in a single Premier League season, levelling Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne’s total of 20. He achieved this milestone in United’s 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest, assisting Bryan Mbeumo for the third goal.

This accolade makes Fernandes the first Manchester United player to win the award since Nemanja Vidic. He had previously secured the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award, further highlighting his significant contributions to the team.

His stellar performance has been instrumental in helping Manchester United secure Champions League football for next season, finishing third in the Premier League. Fernandes has created 132 chances throughout the season, leading the league and surpassing his closest competitor, Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai, by a substantial margin.

In a statement reflecting on his achievement, Fernandes expressed his happiness for the assist record and the team’s performance, noting, “I’m very happy for the assist and for the win, and to finish the season on a high.” He added, “I got to 20, let’s see – we have one more game! It’s the highest I’ve done in the Premier League, so I am very happy with it.”

With one final game on the horizon, Fernandes has the opportunity to break the record for assists should he provide another against Brighton and Hove Albion, a match crucial for the Seagulls’ own aspirations for Europa League qualification.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s head coach, Michael Carrick, has been confirmed to continue indefinitely after taking the team from seventh to a top-three finish. He stated, “Carrying the responsibility of leading our special football club fills me with immense pride.” Carrick acknowledged the team’s resilience and determination this season and is now looking to build on that success for next year.

For Fernandes, this season has been a testament not only to his individual skill but also to the strength of the team as they prepare to embark on the next challenge.

In a league where moments of brilliance can often eclipse the team’s overall narrative, Fernandes’ record-setting feats serve as a reminder of the fine line between individual excellence and collective ambition in football.
