In addition, Julia Lopez’s position may be reconsidered after PM Andy Burnham scrapped the Science, Innovation and Technology department, which fell under her portfolio. Several MPs from the 2024 intake are advocating for promotions, with Katie Lam, Harriet Cross, and Aphra Brandreth among those identified as candidates for more significant responsibilities.
A Tory source mentioned that many of the new intake feel the current shadow cabinet members are not sufficiently delivering on their roles, thus necessitating their involvement. Speculation also surrounds the futures of shadow chancellor Sir Mel Stride and shadow foreign secretary Dame Priti Patel; however, there is no indication that either will be replaced at this stage.
While discussions intensify about potential changes, Tory sources have downplayed the prospect of a substantial overhaul, suggesting that the upcoming adjustments are primarily driven by Labour’s restructuring, Coutinho’s maternity leave, and Grant’s decision to resign.
