Credible threat forces closure of Moscow museum amid security measures
Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) reported receiving information from the United States regarding preparations for a terrorist attack in Moscow, taking appropriate measures in response, reports BritPanorama.
The U.S. Embassy in Moscow also noted it was “aware of a credible threat of a mass casualty event” set for Saturday at Moscow’s Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve and confirmed that the U.S. government was coordinating with Russian authorities.
The Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve, a palace museum and park complex located south of Moscow, was temporarily closed on Saturday. Access to the park remains restricted, according to reports from RIA citing Russian law enforcement agencies.
Russian tabloid Baza stated that the evacuation of the venue occurred toward the end of an organ concert, which was interrupted with approximately ten minutes remaining in the program. Following this, an additional concert celebrating the folk traditions of the North Caucasus region was canceled.
In March 2024, the U.S. Embassy had issued a warning about imminent extremist plans for an attack in Moscow. Shortly thereafter, gunmen attacked the Crocus City Hall concert venue outside the capital, resulting in the deaths of over 140 individuals.
