Farage warns of economic collapse and potential election in UK
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has warned that Britain is on the brink of “economic collapse,” asserting that Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer will likely be compelled to call an election within two years, reports BritPanorama.
In a speech delivered at London’s Banking Hall, Farage indicated that Chancellor Rachel Reeves may soon face scrutiny from the financial markets regarding Labour’s borrowing and spending plans. He forecasted that the government might be driven into a full-blown austerity budget as investor confidence dwindles.
Farage remarked, “The markets are getting nervy,” referencing fluctuations in 10 and 30-year gilt yields. He expressed a belief that, in two budgets’ time, the markets would necessitate a genuine austerity budget from the Chancellor, prompting a negative reaction from the Left within the Labour Party.
He reiterated his prediction of a general election resulting from an economic collapse by 2027. Farage asserted that Britain has “been living under an illusion” regarding its economic strength and accused politicians of overlooking critical warning signs.
Farage claimed that without mass immigration, the UK would not have experienced any GDP growth in recent years, criticizing Westminster for “kidding itself” about the true state of the economy. His statements were designed to establish Reform UK as a credible steward of the nation’s finances, amid earlier accusations of “fantasy politics.”
