Tony Livesey steps back from BBC radio show amid allegations

Tony Livesey will “step back” from his BBC radio show following allegations regarding his past role as the editor-in-chief of David Sullivan’s Sport Newspapers, reports BritPanorama.

The BBC announced that Livesey’s departure is temporary, as the broadcaster investigates issues raised by a Panorama investigation, which includes accusations against Sullivan of sexually exploitative and predatory behaviour, claims he “categorically denies”.

The report suggests that Livesey organized a meeting between one alleged victim and Sullivan. In response, Livesey told The Times he had “no recollection” of this meeting and asserted it was “not part” of his professional responsibilities. GB News has reached out to him for comment.

Additionally, the BBC highlighted a passage in Livesey’s book, which described a model age monitoring system employed by himself and Sullivan that allowed for legal topless photographs. Livesey distanced himself from the idea, stating that the feature was “categorically” not his concept, and that large segments of the book were “fictionalised” to portray him as central to various stories.

A BBC spokesperson emphasized the seriousness of the allegations brought forth in the investigation, stating: “Tony has firmly denied the allegations.” They confirmed that Livesey requested to leave his presenting duties temporarily while the BBC reviews the matters raised.

Compounding the situation, previous allegations against Sullivan include claims that he pressured women into engaging in sexual misconduct. Sullivan maintains that these accusations are “false allegations.” In light of these developments, the Prime Minister’s official spokesman noted the disturbing nature of the accounts provided to both the BBC and The Times.

As the crisis continues, the Times revealed that the investigation was two years in the making, involving discussions with numerous former models. A representative from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport stated, “These deeply concerning allegations must be treated with the utmost seriousness and be investigated by the relevant authorities, with victims given the support they need.”

In his statement resigning as chairman of West Ham United, Sullivan categorically denied the allegations, stating they are “factually incorrect and entirely false” and clarifying that none pertain to his extensive history in football. He expressed sorrow at stepping down, emphasizing his desire for unity and focus for the club moving forward.

As these events unfold, they serve as a stark reminder of the complexities entangled in the intersection of public figures and personal conduct. The fallout will undoubtedly have lasting implications, not only for the individuals involved but also for the wider media and sports industries.
