De Zerbi has maintained that Richarlison had the opportunity to secure his future at the club but declined the chance to discuss an extension during pre-season.
“You don’t know one important thing,” De Zerbi remarked before Spurs’ goalless draw with Nottingham Forest. “At the beginning of pre-season I spoke to Richarlison and asked him if he wanted to extend his contract because I was happy to keep him with us, and he didn’t want to.”
