Roman Abramovich mediates peace talks between Ukraine and Russia
Former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has acted as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia to facilitate peace negotiations, reports BritPanorama.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reportedly met with Abramovich in Kyiv, carrying a message from Moscow regarding Russia’s readiness to understand Ukraine’s position. Zelensky indicated that Abramovich was prepared to relay a response directly to President Vladimir Putin.
“I said the question is not about us. You are fighting against us on our territory,” Zelensky explained, asserting Ukraine’s firm stance on territorial integrity, particularly regarding Donbas. He emphasized that Ukraine would not concede victory in such terms, and expressed his willingness to meet with Putin or other leaders like Donald Trump anywhere except Russia or Belarus.

Abramovich, who was sanctioned by the UK following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, previously sold Chelsea under significant scrutiny, with £2.5 billion frozen in a UK bank account earmarked for humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. Recently, political figures in the UK, including Sir Keir Starmer and Chancellor Rachel Reeves, have been vocal about ensuring these funds reach the affected Ukrainian population, with calls for Abramovich to fulfill his commitments.
