Police launch manhunt after Arsenal store break-in
The Metropolitan Police have launched a manhunt for suspects following an alleged overnight break-in at Arsenal’s Highbury Store, situated close to the Emirates Stadium, reports BritPanorama.
Officers are understood to have reached the scene at approximately 4am on Friday morning, with forensic teams subsequently deployed to examine the premises.
Photographs circulating on social media show the shop surrounded by tape bearing the words “Police line do not cross.” Police vehicles remained stationed outside the store for several hours after the initial response.
The Met initially declined to release details about the incident but later provided a statement and further information after being pressed by journalists at London Now, the Hackney Gazette reported.
The shop’s entrance doors had been toppled and sustained significant damage, according to images captured at the scene. Nearly 10 hours after the break-in was first reported, the store remained shut and cordoned off by police.
The Highbury Store sits on Drayton Park, adjacent to Arsenal’s club offices, and is not the Gunners’ main retail outlet. It lies less than a 10-minute walk from the primary Arsenal Armoury shop.
Arsenal have been approached for comment regarding the incident. The Metropolitan Police press bureau had initially refused to disclose any information about what had taken place, though reporters continued to push for a response throughout the day.
Mikel Arteta’s squad were last at home on Wednesday evening, hosting Italian club Como in a pre-season friendly. The Gunners are due to travel to the Millennium Stadium this Sunday to take on Manchester City in the Community Shield, with their next fixture at the Emirates scheduled for 21 August against Coventry on the opening day of the new Premier League campaign.
