Family row intensifies ahead of Fury-Joshua showdown
John Fury has launched an attack on his younger brother, Peter, after the trainer revealed he had spoken to Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury’s opponent in December’s blockbuster heavyweight fight, reports BritPanorama.
The family dispute has added tension to the buildup of the long-awaited Fury-Joshua showdown, set for Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on December 11. John has accused Peter of betrayal for offering advice to Joshua, even though Peter emphasized that any assistance would only come after the bout.
Peter, who trained Tyson from 2012 to 2017, stated he had discussed Joshua’s skill set with him two months ago. He added that, while he is willing to help Joshua after the fight, he praised the current training team around Joshua, including Team Usyk, and clarified that their conversation was not aimed at exposing Tyson’s weaknesses.
John Fury reacted angrily in an interview, asserting that he no longer speaks to Peter, branding him a “f***ing cockroach.” He accused his brother of disloyalty should he provide Joshua with any secret sessions or specific advice regarding Tyson’s strategy. John expressed skepticism regarding the idea that Joshua might have approached Peter for insight.
The relationship between the brothers has been strained for years, primarily due to disagreements over money and the management of Tyson’s career. Peter was instrumental in Tyson’s rise to stardom, having coached him during his notable victory over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015, while John was serving a prison sentence at that time.
This latest dispute unfolds amid ongoing estrangement between John and Tyson, with John previously stating their relationship was “completely destroyed.” Despite these tensions, Tyson has dismissed claims surrounding Peter’s involvement with Joshua’s training, reaffirming that family ties remain, even amidst proximity issues.
As the spotlight sharpens around the upcoming fight, the connections in the boxing world are becoming increasingly tangled, highlighting the fine line between loyalty and ambition in a sport where personal and professional realms often collide.
