England camp shelter indoors due to tornado warning in Kansas City
The England camp was forced to take shelter indoors after a tornado warning was issued in Kansas City, reports BritPanorama.
Thomas Tuchel’s squad had been training at their Swope Soccer Village base when adverse weather struck, leading to an emergency alert being dispatched to local phones, including those of the England team.
In response, the players opted to remain inside their Inn at Meadowbrook hotel in Prairie Village. Heavy storms caused concerns for safety, prompting the alert which warned of destructive 80mph winds. The National Weather Service advised the public to take shelter immediately, highlighting the risks posed by flying debris.
Local television channels discontinued coverage of Scotland’s World Cup match against Haiti and even the NBA Finals to provide updates on the unfolding weather situation. Fans attending the Kansas City Royals game against the Houston Astros were also instructed to seek cover due to the storm.
This is not the first disruption for the England squad during their preparations for the World Cup. Earlier, the team experienced delays due to a thunderstorm before their warm-up friendly against Costa Rica. Furthermore, a culinary hiccup occurred when the team’s chef was barred from a train service in Florida, having accidentally activated a metal detector while carrying cooking knives.
In addition to weather-related challenges, the England camp faced a theft incident, where thieves made off with boots and training equipment from a van transporting supplies from Florida to Kansas City. Fortunately, sources confirmed that the stolen items were recovered and two arrests were made.
As England prepares to commence their World Cup journey against Croatia on June 17, they are left reflecting on the turbulent circumstances that have marked their lead-up to the tournament, a reminder of how unpredictable the road can be.
