Cristiano Ronaldo set to marry Georgina Rodriguez in Madeira
Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly preparing to tie the knot with his fiancée Georgina Rodriguez next Saturday in a lavish ceremony on the Portuguese island where he spent his childhood, reports BritPanorama.
The 41-year-old football icon and 32-year-old Georgina have selected the Funchal cathedral in Madeira as the venue for their wedding ceremony.
Following the ceremony, the couple is expected to host their wedding reception at the nearby five-star Savoy Palace hotel, which offers four restaurants and breathtaking views of the island.
This venue holds sentimental value for Ronaldo, who was born and raised in Funchal before leaving at just 11 years old to pursue a career with Sporting Lisbon.
A source disclosed that hotel guests have already been informed of the arrangements, stating, “Guests at the hotel have been told two floors will be out of use on Friday and Saturday, as well as several bar areas.”
Weddings at Funchal cathedral usually commence at 3pm, so celebrations are anticipated to begin in the afternoon before guests transition to the hotel for the reception. Intriguingly, there were prior reports suggesting Ronaldo and Georgina would marry at the Quinta da Regaleira estate in Sintra instead; however, those claims were cast into doubt when it emerged that the historic site remained open to the public.
Rumours about the impending wedding have been further fuelled by sightings of both Ronaldo and Georgina sporting diamond rings while boarding a yacht in Majorca last week.
The couple became engaged in August following eight years together. Georgina had first caught Ronaldo’s eye in 2016 while working as a sales assistant at a Gucci store in Madrid, and she announced their engagement on Instagram with the caption “Yes, I do.”
Ronaldo had originally expressed a desire to marry as a World Cup champion, stating to Piers Morgan, “I hope to arrive at my wedding with the champion’s trophy.” However, this aspiration faltered as Portugal was eliminated in the Round of 16 by Spain, who eventually claimed the trophy.
He also shared with Morgan that Georgina is the only woman he has dated whom he wished to settle down with.
The couple shares daughters Alana and Bella, and they have twins Eva Maria and Mateo through surrogacy. Ronaldo also has a son, Cristiano Jr., 16, from a previous relationship.
As for the football stalwart, who now plays for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia after signing a lucrative £175 million-a-year deal in 2022, Madeira remains a poignant reminder of his roots— from humble beginnings to global stardom. It’s an assertion of identity as much as it is a celebration of love.
