Katie Boulter reveals name change uncertainty after marrying Alex de Minaur in secret ceremony

Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur marry in secret ceremony

Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur have tied the knot in a secret ceremony that took place over the weekend in Leicestershire, reports BritPanorama.

The tennis couple exchanged vows on the same day as the Wimbledon men’s singles final, choosing a private venue near Woodhouse Eaves, the village where Boulter spent her childhood.

News of their nuptials emerged on Monday when photographs surfaced. According to reports, local villagers were asked to keep the celebration confidential.

Both players became engaged during the off-season at the end of 2024, and there is speculation about a larger celebration in Europe to follow. A question many are asking is whether Boulter will take her husband’s last name, to which she remains undecided.

Before Wimbledon, she noted she’d ordered an England shirt with her maiden name, stating, “I’m not a De Minaur yet,” and added, “It’s a great question. We’re gonna find out. That decision’s also not been made!” Currently, her social media profiles still reflect her maiden name.

Despite the recent wedding, both are preparing to return to competitive tennis shortly. They plan to participate in the ATP and WTA 500 event in Washington later this month. De Minaur, the current world number five, will defend his title at the DC Open, while Boulter is eager for a strong start on the North American hard court circuit. “My plan is to go to Washington. I don’t want to take weeks off,” she confirmed, emphasizing their shared commitment.

The wedding follows a challenging Wimbledon for the couple. Boulter exited in the opening round against teenage qualifier Tyra Grant, a defeat that left her visibly upset. “I think this is the most challenging part about tennis. It’s so difficult to feel satisfied,” she reflected post-match.

De Minaur’s tournament ended in round four with a straight-sets loss to Flavio Cobolli, as he expressed frustration over missed opportunities. “You go through moments in your career, times where you feel that there are opportunities to be taken, to take the next step,” he noted. “And to fall short constantly, you start doubting yourself.”

Their wedding marks a brighter moment in a demanding season, underscoring the complexities of balancing personal milestones with the pressures of professional sports.
