Brighton thrash Coventry 5-0 as Lampard’s side remains bottom
Brighton delivered a commanding 5-0 victory over Coventry City, exacerbating Frank Lampard’s woes, as his team sits at the bottom of the Premier League table, reports BritPanorama.
The Seagulls showcased a remarkable performance, with goals from Charalampos Kostoulas, Malick Yalcouye, Pascal Groß, Lewis Dunk, and Yasin Ayari, propelling them into the top four of the league.
Coventry, fresh from winning the Championship title, faced a harsh reality check as they have struggled to score in the Premier League, now having conceded ten goals in their opening matches.
Brighton was in control from the outset, showing their attacking intent early on. Diego Gomez had a clear chance but squandered it by shooting wide. Coventry’s Jack Rudoni also came close, though his efforts were thwarted by Brighton’s goalkeeper, Bart Verbruggen.
After holding the visitors at bay for a spell, Coventry’s defence faltered. Kostoulas broke the deadlock with an impressive shot that bounced beyond Carl Rushworth. Shortly after the interval, Yalcouye made it 2-0, capitalizing on defensive lapses to score a well-executed goal.
Matters deteriorated for Coventry when Taiwo Awoniyi received a red card following a VAR review for an elbow to the jaw of Maxim De Cuyper. Amidst their struggles, Brighton received a penalty when Bobby Thomas committed a foul on Kostoulas; Groß calmly converted it, extending the lead to 3-0.
Brighton’s Dunk added a spectacular fourth goal from long range, leaving no chance for Rushworth. Ayari capped off the scoring with the fifth, confirming an emphatic result for Fabin Hurzeler’s team.
As Coventry continues to adjust to the Premier League, they find themselves without a goal in their first four matches, while Brighton sets its sights on the season ahead, firmly establishing itself among the league’s contenders.
For Coventry, it’s a stark reminder of the challenges that lie ahead, illustrating just how much harder the Premier League can be compared to the Championship.
