Man charged after Robert Jenrick receives death threat linked to his Jewish wife

A man has been charged following allegations that Robert Jenrick received a death threat referencing his Jewish wife, reports BritPanorama.

Antisemitic voicemails were reportedly left at the Reform MP’s constituency office in Newark, Nottinghamshire. Alongside these threats, antisemitic messages were also directed towards the Israeli embassy in Kensington, West London, and to a Muslim group, indicating a broader pattern of hate-related communications.

The alleged offences occurred between January 27 – Holocaust Memorial Day – and May 7, as confirmed by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Nick Daly, 30, has been arrested and charged with nine counts of sending communications conveying an indecent/offensive message.

In addition to the earlier charges, Daly has been charged with one count of sending communication threatening death or serious harm. Kris Venkatasami from the CPS stated, “Prosecutors have authorised criminal charges against Nick Daly following a review of the evidence referred to us by Surrey Police.” Eight of the counts relate to anti-Muslim communications directed at a Muslim organisation, while one count concerns antisemitic messages sent to the Israeli embassy.

Daly has also been charged with possessing an offensive weapon and a quantity of cannabis. During his appearance at Guildford magistrates’ court, he spoke only to confirm his name, address, and date of birth.

In a recent discussion on BBC’s Question Time, Jenrick revealed that he constantly receives death threats and antisemitic abuse, stating, “It is sometimes tough going into public life.” He acknowledged the murders of fellow MPs Jo Cox and Sir David Amess, emphasising the risks faced by public figures.

Jenrick’s comments emerge in a context of increasing antisemitic incidents across the UK. Police have arrested 30 individuals since an arson attack on two Jewish ambulances in Golders Green in March, and two people were recently stabbed in a North London Jewish neighbourhood.

The Metropolitan Police’s Mark Rowley faced criticism from local Jewish residents amidst rising concerns over safety following the attacks. Jenrick’s remarks reflect a wider call for action against the escalation of violence and antisemitism in British society.

As the landscape of political safety continues to shift, calls from political leaders for urgent action against hate crimes underscore the necessity of addressing rising societal tensions within the UK.
