Andrew Garfield reflects on Hollywood escape

Andrew Garfield has expressed his ongoing contemplation of leaving the Hollywood spotlight behind, noting this desire frequently. The Amazing Spider-Man star has been engaged in a series of back-to-back projects over the past year, including the adaptation of Enid Blyton’s The Magic Faraway Tree, an action period drama titled The Uprising, and Luca Guadagnino’s biopic, Artificial, reports BritPanorama.

In an interview with Variety, Garfield shared that he worked continuously for much of the last year. “I’ve done like 11 months, 12 months, straight back-to-back projects,” he explained. He acknowledged the necessity of promoting his work, yet wished he could retreat to the countryside, stating, “if I had my druthers, people would just see them, and I could go whittle wood in the Somerset countryside and think about what the birds might be doing.”

Garfield’s musings about stepping away from the public eye echo his earlier sentiments regarding the pressures of fame. “I still have dreams, but they’re slightly more earthbound than my previous ones,” he reflected, mentioning that his current focus is on the quality of his relationships with family and friends.

The actor has previously taken a step back from acting following a busy 2022, during which he starred in three films, including The Eyes of Tammy Faye and Spider-Man: No Way Home. At that time, he remarked, “I need to recalibrate and reconsider what I want to do next and who I want to be and just be a bit of a person for a while.” Garfield’s hiatus lasted two years until he returned to lead the romantic drama We Live in Time, which premiered in late 2024.

The Magic Faraway Tree is currently playing in theatres.
