Emotional plea for help amid devastating cancer diagnosis
Paul Gascoigne’s adopted son Mason has issued an emotional appeal for help after his 28-year-old partner was diagnosed with an aggressive and incurable brain tumour, reports BritPanorama.
Jaimee Sharp, who shares five-year-old son Teddy with Mason, is attempting to raise £320,516 to access an experimental treatment in the United States. A fundraising page has been established as Jaimee has the opportunity to participate in a clinical trial at a hospital in Ohio that involves a new drug designed for patients with tumours like hers.
The funds need to be raised within one month to ensure a realistic prospect of her completing the trial. Jaimee, who has been diagnosed with an IDH1-mutant, CNS WHO grade four astrocytoma, described how the diagnosis has turned her family’s life upside down.
“My whole life changed when I was diagnosed with an aggressive and incurable form of brain cancer,” she wrote. Jaimee underwent major brain surgery to remove as much of the tumour as possible and is currently undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment. However, she noted the disheartening reality that, even after the standard treatment, the tumour will progress, with the median survival rate being about five years.
Jaimee’s overarching motivation is securing additional time with her son. “More than anything, I desperately want more time with my little boy,” she continued. She acknowledges that while the treatment cannot cure her cancer, the clinical trial offers a “glimmer of hope.”
She articulated the desire for more moments with Teddy, expressing, “I need to watch my son’s smiles and laughter on more Christmas mornings,” and “to be there for more birthdays.” Jaimee urged those who cannot contribute financially to share the appeal in hopes that her story reaches those who can help.
The fundraiser has gathered significant momentum, amassing approximately half of the target, with £145,000 raised within a matter of days. Mason has publicly thanked supporters while urging the campaign to be shared as widely as possible. “We’re trying to achieve this goal so we can have the time we deserve with her and she has the time she deserves with her five-year-old boy,” he said, appreciating every contribution, however small.
Mason revealed that the response has positively impacted Jaimee’s outlook during this unimaginably difficult period. “It’s given her this hope and this belief, and this community she never knew was there for her,” he explained, highlighting the joy it has brought his partner.
As the couple navigates this challenging journey, their story underscores both the fragility of life and the profound human connections that emerge in times of crisis.
