Nigel Farage reprimands Zia Yusuf over ‘traitor’ comment directed at Ben Wallace
Nigel Farage has rebuked Zia Yusuf for labeling former Defence Secretary Ben Wallace a “traitor” to Britain, stating he would reprimand his home affairs spokesman over the remark, reports BritPanorama.
The incident arose following Yusuf’s comments regarding an ongoing dispute with Wallace concerning the Reform UK party’s new prisons policy. Yusuf accused Wallace, who served in the Scots Guard and participated in operations in Northern Ireland, of being complicit in the Afghan airlift scandal, suggesting he should face prosecution.
Farage expressed disapproval, emphasizing that “traitor” is an excessively strong term. He remarked, “That’s too strong a word. I shall give him a ticking off,” indicating that he would address the issue directly with Yusuf.
When pressed about whether Yusuf should retract his comment from social media, Farage agreed that the language was inappropriate, adding, “But yeah, it’s over the top.”
