Fifa responds to Uefa’s threat to boycott World Cups
Fifa has insisted it is “not selling football” following Uefa’s threat to boycott future World Cups over its controversial sell-off plan, reports BritPanorama.
On Friday morning, football’s governing body defended its position against mounting opposition to the proposed Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE), stating it would “not ever entertain” the idea of selling out the sport.
Fifa acknowledged the feedback and concerns raised by Uefa and other confederations but claimed that the consultation process had been disrupted by “incorrect media reports.” The organisation asserted that FFE would remain permanently owned and controlled by Fifa and clarified it would not alter the governance of world football.
In its statement, Fifa emphasized, “Nobody is selling football. This is not something FIFA would ever entertain.” It added, “Everyone has the right to express their opposition and to seek further clarification, but no single entity can claim to represent all 211 member associations around the world.”
Fifa concluded by affirming that each member association should have the opportunity to review the proposal and shape their own future, highlighting the democratic principles of the organisation.
