Amanda Staveley leads consortium in bid for West Ham stake
Amanda Staveley, the former co-owner of Newcastle United, is leading a consortium that has entered discussions over acquiring Vanessa Gold’s 25 per cent shareholding in West Ham, reports BritPanorama.
Her husband, Mehrdad Ghodoussi, is also part of the group, which has demonstrated significant interest in completing the purchase. Talks have advanced considerably in recent weeks, with indications that Staveley has lined up international backing to finance the deal.
West Ham, relegated from the Premier League at the conclusion of the last season, has been under scrutiny after the consortium began exploring investment opportunities towards the end of that campaign. Their ambitions extend beyond acquiring the initial quarter stake, with a willingness to purchase additional shares that would potentially enable them to gain a controlling interest in the club.
Currently, David Sullivan and Daniel Kretinsky remain the principal shareholders of West Ham. Staveley, who has experience in high-profile takeover bids, previously attempted to lead a consortium that sought the acquisition of Tottenham Hotspur during the last campaign. After selling their shares at St James’ Park in July 2024, Staveley and Ghodoussi have shifted their focus to new opportunities within English football.
In related developments, Sullivan stood down as the club’s joint chairman in June following a joint investigation by BBC Panorama and the Times newspaper into allegations of sexually exploitative and predatory behaviour made by seven women. Sullivan has categorically denied all claims, asserting that they are “factually incorrect and entirely false.” He expressed concerns over the lack of proper explanation regarding the verification of these allegations and labeled the process as fundamentally unfair.
The Independent Football Regulator has contacted West Ham regarding the “extremely serious allegations,” seeking urgent information about Sullivan’s fitness for his role. Following his resignation, Sullivan indicated the need to focus his energy on refuting these claims.
As West Ham prepares for next season, they are determined to bounce back from their relegation, with their captain Jarrod Bowen committing his future to the club after a notable performance last season where he scored 11 goals and provided 12 assists. The Hammers currently sit as favourites to regain their Premier League status.
