Count Binface promises to cap price of 99 Flake at 99p in Clacton by-election bid

Count Binface has launched a bid for the Clacton by-election, vowing to implement a price cap of 99 pence on the iconic 99 Flake ice cream, a move he hopes will resonate with local voters amid ongoing controversies surrounding his opponent, Nigel Farage, reports BritPanorama.

This election comes after Farage, the leader of Reform UK, resigned from his position as MP, triggered by a sleaze scandal. Following his departure, Binface, known for his satirical approach to politics, announced his candidacy, challenging Farage’s decision in a constituency where other major political parties are currently absent from the race.

Binface has publicly criticized Farage, describing his exit from Parliament as a “cunning stunt.” He outlined his whimsical campaign proposals, which include reviving the TV-based information service Ceefax, nationalizing pop singer Adele, and committing to the construction of one affordable house. “I’ll price cap 99 Flakes at 99 pence. I think the Clacton folk will like that one,” he asserted, adding a playful jab about Farage’s financial backing.

As momentum builds, bookmakers have slashed Binface’s odds from 50-1 to 5-1, indicating a shift in public perception. While acknowledging the improbability of actual victory, Binface stated, “My job is to celebrate and defend the wonders of British democracy,” positioning himself as an alternative voice in the political landscape.

Farage, who won the Clacton seat in 2024 with 46 per cent of the vote, now faces scrutiny over a £5 million gift from crypto investor Christopher Harborne and other allegations of failing to disclose financial support from a convicted criminal. His resignation has delayed an ongoing investigation by the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner, which may resume if he returns to office.

Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy has expressed concerns about Farage’s situation, stating, “He’s got serious questions to answer and he can’t run away from them.” As the by-election approaches, the situation remains fluid and indicative of larger themes in UK politics.

The dynamics of this contest illustrate the evolving nature of the UK political scene, spotlighting both the personal ambitions and ethical controversies that continue to shape voter sentiment and party credibility.
