Emma Raducanu confirms Wimbledon plans despite injury concerns

Emma Raducanu has reiterated her intention to compete at Wimbledon, despite grappling with ongoing injury issues, reports BritPanorama.

The British No. 1 had to shorten her practice session at the All England Club on Sunday due to a leg injury. Raducanu is set to begin her campaign on Monday at 1pm, facing Croatia’s Antonia Ruzic.

She stated, “I’m going to do everything with my team in terms of treatment. The plan right now is to play.” This comes amid rising concerns about her fitness as she was spotted wearing a protective boot last Wednesday.

Raducanu missed training sessions on Thursday and Friday due to what is reported as a shin issue. Having returned to the court on Saturday with strapping around her lower right leg, she was still unable to complete her practice.

Following her recent performance, which saw her reach the final of the Queen’s Club Championship, the attention now shifts to her condition. Speaking to the media, Raducanu classified her shin problems as a “niggle,” asserting, “I’ve been managing it. Queen’s, maybe, was a lot of load for me. Five matches after having not competed for a while, it was just a lot. But I’m just managing it with my team as best as I possibly can, exhausting all options and doing what we can.”

In light of her injury history, Raducanu has acknowledged that she does not foresee a long career in professional tennis. She expressed her thoughts on retirement, suggesting, “I’ll probably be retiring and hopefully proud of the career I’ve had in tennis, but also extremely excited for another career.” This sentiment reflects her view that tennis is but one chapter of her life.

The 23-year-old, who made history by winning the US Open as a qualifier at just 18, will aim to replicate that success at Wimbledon while managing her physical challenges. As she prepares for her first match of the tournament, all eyes will be on her performance and resilience under pressure.

Raducanu’s journey serves as a poignant reminder of the fine line professional athletes walk between ambition and the physical toll of high-level competition.
