Cora Schumacher offers subtle remark following Ralf Schumacher’s wedding
Cora Schumacher delivered a sly dig at her ex-husband, Ralf Schumacher, after the racer married Étienne Bousquet-Cassagne. She offered what appeared to be a congratulations message with subtle undertones, reports BritPanorama.
In a statement to BILD, she remarked, “They always say: True love finds a way… In some cases, it just takes a little longer until everyone at the racetrack really knows which way the race is headed. Nevertheless, all the best for your wedding.” The motorsport-related comment hinted at his sexuality, given their 14-year marriage and shared son, David.
The former Formula One driver, aged 50, recently wed Frenchman Bousquet-Cassagne in Saint-Tropez, just 19 months after publicly revealing his sexuality. The couple arrived at the town hall at 5:18 p.m. local time, dressed identically in dark blue suits with white shirts and pale blue ties.
Schumacher, who secured six Grand Prix victories during his career with Williams and Jordan, married the French businessman in what initiated a three-day celebration. The couple own a property near the scenic coastal location, which was once Schumacher’s holiday home with his ex-wife.
The wedding ceremony was featured in a four-part documentary series titled “Ralf & Étienne: Wir sagen Ja” (We Say Yes), with the finale set to air on June 6. Among the attendees was Sky’s Formula One expert Peter Hardenacke, who congratulated the newlyweds, expressing, “I’m happy for him, I wish him all the luck in the world. I believe he has found the right partner.”
Following the ceremony, the couple departed through a rear exit around 6 p.m. and proceeded to a restaurant reception aboard a luxury motorboat. The couple first met in Monaco, where they exchanged phone numbers before starting their relationship in 2022. Bousquet-Cassagne described his immediate attraction, stating, “I was in love at first sight.”
His husband reportedly took longer to warm up to the relationship, sending multiple messages without receiving replies until Schumacher finally responded months later. In July 2024, Schumacher publicly announced both his relationship and his sexuality.
David served as the best man at the wedding, attended by around 110 guests. The revelation of Schumacher’s same-sex relationship initially caused friction with his ex-wife, who publicly expressed turmoil over the situation, stating she had “wasted her best years” on him. However, in February, upon news of the engagement, Cora extended an olive branch, wishing the couple happiness alongside her own partner, Steven Bo Bekendam.
This chapter in their lives sheds light on the complexities of personal relationships, especially in the public eye, illustrating how connections can evolve, even against a backdrop of strife. Perhaps, as with motorsport’s unpredictable turns, love also charts its own course through the twists and turns of life.
