Fury donates fight purse, walks away with nothing
Mariusz Wach reportedly earned $750,000 for his heavyweight fight against Tyson Fury in Thailand, as Fury chose to donate his entire purse to the Father Ray Foundation, a local charity assisting orphans and disadvantaged children, reports BritPanorama.
In a rare twist, the two-time world heavyweight champion stepped into the ring without receiving any financial reward. Fury’s decision reflected a priority beyond personal gain, as he opted to support a charitable cause.
The event, held at Max Muay Thai Stadium, attracted a modest crowd of just 1,500 spectators and lacked traditional media coverage, instead set to air on the Netflix series ‘At Home With The Furys.’
Despite the low-profile setting, Fury showcased his dominance, controlling the match throughout seven rounds before Wach retired on his stool, signalling the end of the bout.
In contrast, Anthony Joshua’s recent fight in Saudi Arabia was marked by drama. Competing at the Jeddah Superdome, Joshua faced a challenging opening round against Albanian Kristian Prenga, hitting the canvas twice. However, he returned to form, securing a TKO in the second round and taking home an impressive $18 million, while Prenga earned $1 million.
