Chaplain Emma Roberts, 54, is gaining attention on TikTok by adopting the persona of “Mandy Burnham,” remarkably resembling the Labour leader, Andy Burnham. Roberts, who shares similar features such as a haircut, eyebrows, thick-rimmed glasses, and a smile with the Labour chief, is using this playful identity to engage with the public, reports BritPanorama.
Roberts’ resemblance to Burnham has drawn comments even from her mother, who noted they are “a spitting image.” The chaplain, a fan of rugby and real ale from Swansea, supports the Prime Minister’s tax cuts for pubs and has received a warm response to her humorous TikTok character. “People are loving it and finding it hilarious,” she remarked on a Zoom call with family, sharing how others have noticed her likeness to the Labour leader.
Encouraged by her partner Iona, who affectionately calls her “Our Mandy, woman of the People,” Roberts posits that the similarities between her and Burnham might stem from their eyebrows and facial structure. “It’s also the shape of my face and the glasses, and I think we’re both quite smiley,” she added. Both individuals were born into Christian families two years apart and enjoyed similar upbringings.
Beyond appearances, the chaplain shares some interests with the Prime Minister. While Burnham was an ardent Everton fan during his childhood, Roberts participated in football. Their educational paths diverged, with Roberts studying sport and geography at Chester College, whereas Burnham attended Cambridge for English. Despite this, Roberts aligns with Burnham’s policy changes, particularly his initiative to support local pubs, declaring their role as vital to community life.
Roberts has a playful take on pub culture, envisioning legislation that would mandate every pub to serve local favorites such as Double Dragon Ale and Yorkshire Crisps. “What I really want to know is, what does he drink? I saw him drinking water in one video, which is just weird,” she commented, while critiquing his unusual method of tea preparation. The chaplain, who also hosts interviews for her YouTube channel focused on Quakerism, expressed a desire to discuss faith with Burnham.
A recent TikTok of her persona garnered 250,000 views, prompting fans to suggest collaborations with the Prime Minister. As for her assessment of Burnham’s leadership, Roberts concluded, “We’ll have to wait and see.”
