Bukayo Saka sends Arsenal to Champions League final
Bukayo Saka has sent Arsenal through to the Champions League final after his close-range strike was enough to beat Atletico Madrid 1-0, reports BritPanorama.
The Gunners, who advanced through 2-1 on aggregate, dominated proceedings throughout, culminating in a resilient display in the second half to secure the victory.
Mikel Arteta beamed at full time as celebrations began, with either PSG or Bayern Munich awaiting Arsenal in an opportunity for their first Champions League title. This marks a historic night for the Gunners, who will play in their second-ever Champions League final.
A mixed start in the opening 10 minutes saw Declan Rice making a crucial interception to deny Giuliano Simeone from a clear chance on goal. Victor Gyokeres began to trouble the Atletico defence, winning the Gunners’ first corner with excellent hold-up play. However, Arsenal’s pressure mounted, and just before half-time, Saka put them ahead after Trossard’s shot was saved by Jan Oblak, allowing Saka to tap in from close range.
Into the second half, Arsenal survived an early scare when Gabriel conceded a foul on Simeone, but VAR deemed no infringement had occurred. David Raya thwarted a goal-bound effort from Antoine Griezmann, reflecting Arsenal’s determination to contain Atletico’s attacking pressure.
Despite a couple of decent chances for Atletico later, including a threatening header from Alexander Sorloth in the final minutes, Arsenal maintained their control and successfully navigated five minutes of stoppage time to secure their place in the final.
Arsenal fans can now look forward to booking their flights to Budapest at the end of the month, with a prestigious title on the line. As the Gunners prepare for this monumental clash, the prevailing question remains: can they take that final step towards European glory?
