Diogo Jota’s final moments recounted by widow
In extracts from Diogo Jota: Forever In Our Hearts, published by the Liverpool Echo, Rute Cardoso shared poignant details of her last exchanges with her husband shortly before his tragic accident, reports BritPanorama.
Cardoso revealed that shortly after Jota and his brothers set off on their journey, she sent him a message wishing him a safe trip. “A few minutes after they’d left, I sent Diogo a message saying, ‘Safe journey’. He replied with an emoji, and I told him to keep his eyes on the road,” she recounted.
She also spoke of Jota’s unusual choice to hire luxury cars for their travels, noting it was out of character for him. “Unlike most players, who like fancy cars, jewellery and watches, Diogo was never into that sort of thing. He was happy with the cars we had,” Cardoso explained, highlighting Jota’s modesty in contrast to the typical extravagant lifestyle of professional athletes.
This personal insight offers a glimpse of Diogo Jota’s character, a player often celebrated for his talent on the pitch but remembered as a devoted husband off it. Such reflections contribute to a broader understanding of his life beyond football, resonating deeply with fans and colleagues alike.
In an environment where athletic prowess often overshadows personal stories, Cardoso’s revelations remind us of the human lives behind the statistics and accolades. The intersection of sport and personal tragedy inevitably shapes narratives both on and off the field.
