Tyson Fury reveals fight date ahead of Anthony Joshua showdown
Tyson Fury appears to have accidentally unveiled key details regarding his next fight, as anticipation builds for his long-expected clash with Anthony Joshua later this year, reports BritPanorama.
The former heavyweight champion indicated on social media that he will make his return to the ring on August 1 in Dublin, a mere week after Joshua’s comeback fight in Saudi Arabia.
Fury and Joshua are slated to finally face each other later this year, following years of stalled negotiations and failed discussions over what many consider a blockbuster “Battle of Britain.” However, both boxers are poised for distinct warm-up bouts prior to this highly anticipated event.
Joshua, 36, is scheduled to take on unknown Albanian heavyweight Kristian Prenga on July 25 in Riyadh. Despite a professional record of 20-1, Prenga remains largely off the radar for many boxing fans. Fury, 37, has hinted at his upcoming fight, uploading a training video featuring his Thailand-based coach Robert “Sifu” McInnes, who appeared to confirm the fight details during the session.
In the video, McInnes stated, “First time back in camp ready for the fight on August 1st.” Fury further stoked speculation with his caption: “Let’s go August 1, Dublin, Ireland.” The Gypsy King has resumed his training camp in Thailand, a location he chose previously for his successful fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov earlier this year.
The Dublin event is anticipated to take place at the 3Arena and will reportedly include the rescheduled lightweight contest between Pierce O’Leary and Mark Chamberlain. Meanwhile, Joshua is gearing up for his own return to the ring following a tragic car accident in December that claimed the lives of two of his close friends.
Before the fatal crash, Joshua had convincingly defeated YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in Miami. He has since resumed training, recently seen alongside heavyweight prospect Matty Harris in preparation for his upcoming bout in Saudi Arabia.
Both fighters expect to meet for their long-awaited showdown in November, contingent on successfully navigating their respective preliminary matches. Promoter Frank Warren has confirmed ongoing discussions aimed at solidifying this all-British boxing spectacle, asserting, “That’s what we’re looking to do.” He cautioned against complacency for either boxer, emphasizing the importance of their upcoming fights as crucial stepping stones towards the big one later this year.
The stakes are undeniably high as Fury and Joshua prepare to make their returns. For fans, the real intrigue lies in how each will fare in their warm-up bouts, setting the stage for what could be one of the most significant encounters in British boxing history.
