Rory McIlroy surprises golf fans with cameo in The Devil Wears Prada 2

Golf fans watching The Devil Wears Prada 2 this week got quite the unexpected treat when Rory McIlroy and his wife Erica popped up on screen, reports BritPanorama.

The long-awaited sequel, which reunites Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt two decades after the original, features a star-studded cast including Lady Gaga, Donatella Versace, Heidi Klum, and Naomi Campbell, alongside Ashley Graham, Jenna Bush Hager, and NBA star Karl-Anthony Towns.

However, it is McIlroy’s surprise appearance that has particularly captured the audience’s attention, blending the realms of professional golf and high fashion in an unexpected way. Director David Frankel expressed his enthusiasm about having the four-time major champion involved during the film’s European premiere in London. “Well, the one I was most excited for will surprise isn’t even in the world of fashion. I mean I loved having Rory McIlroy,” he stated. “He was a great sport. A very good actor.”

Frankel noted that he had been keen on casting McIlroy for some time after hearing him discuss his pre-tournament relaxation routine, which amusingly included watching the original film before his 2025 Players Championship victory. “You know it was triggered because last year, right before he won the Players Championship, the press asked him what he did to relax the night before he won the tournament, and he said he watched ‘The Devil Wears Prada,'” Frankel explained.

In the film, the McIlroys appear for roughly 10 to 15 seconds during a glamorous Met Gala-style party sequence. The cameo is notable not only for McIlroy’s status as one of the biggest names in golf but also for the fact that other filmed scenes, including some with Sydney Sweeney, did not make the final cut, rendering their appearance even more special.

The sequel has received largely positive reviews, currently holding a 77 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

It’s a fascinating reminder of the colliding worlds of sport and glamour, showcasing how even the strongest characters in golf can find common ground with the stars of the silver screen. Perhaps, in an odd way, it also brings a bit of levity to the intense spotlight that often surrounds high-profile athletes.
